Many studies have shown that social support can protect your health from a variety
of problems.  Social interaction can help prevent dementia.  Having a good social
support system can help protect against depression especially following heart
attack.  A lack of a social network is associated with heart attack, and risk factors
such as elevated cholesterol level, tobacco use, and hypertension (high blood
pressure) are reduced in those who have social activities.
